Topic: GPS Pod WARNING, donīt buy, itīs crap Posted: 09 Jul 2010 at 11:40
I bought my GPS Pod at the same time I bought the t3c watch and foot Pod. The dealer didnīt mentiion they donīt work together - I thought the GPS would calibrate the other Pod, but it doesnīt.
It also works very poorly alone. It says in the instructions, that it might not work in the forrets because of high trees blocking the GPS-signals, but today I have experienced that it doesnīt work on highways going trough forrests either. The GPS Pod recorded only 9 km on a biking trip of 43 km, mostly on open fields in the countryside. Funny thing, my iPhone knows where I am all the time....even when running on tracks in deepest forrest.
The thing cost me 129 euro with a rebate and delivers only ONE function (occasionally). Donīt buy this crap folks - you can get a well functioning mobile phone for the same money or a lot of chilling beer.
No GPS can catch a signal if you live in a place where there's few sats covering, however, keep in mind you must place your GPS in a place where your own body doesn't block the signal itself. That is the most common reason for the GPS failing to record mileage.
Never had the problem you are experiencing and I live in a densely populated urban area... add to it, I biked the full IronMan in Nice with the GPS pod on my arm and it didnt lose a single Km. There has to be something wrong with that particular GPS or you are just not following the instructions. Mind that the battery is VERY important with all Suunto toys. Around 50% you will have a consistent degrade of performances. These toys suck battery power like nothing I ever saw before but I am fairly sure if you work on the solutions your gps will work much better. Failing to do so, return it and have it replaced because it means your particular gps pod is not working as intended.
